How to Finish a WGU Class Over the Weekend
It sounds impossible to finish a WGU class in a weekend, but that’s not true once you know how WGU classes are set up. These classes aren’t based on how long you spend in them. They are based on proof of skill. Once you focus on that, you can go fast.
This isn’t about hurrying or skipping steps. It’s about getting rid of everything that doesn’t help you pass.
Step 1: Find the Finish Line Right Away
There are two ways that every WGU course ends:
- An Objective Assessment (OA)
- A Performance Assessment (PA)
Answer this question before you do anything else:
“What do I need to turn in or pass to finish this class?”
For now, just ignore the rest. The syllabus, extra readings, and optional resources only matter if they help you finish the race.
Step 2: Begin with the assessment, not the content
Weekend accelerators don’t “warm up” by studying.
If it’s an OA:
- Do the pre-assessment as soon as you can
- Use it to find out what skills you need to work on.
If it’s a PA:
- Please open the rubric right away.
- Don’t use it as a guideline; use it as a checklist.
This one step can save you days of work that you don’t need to do.
Step 3: Follow the 80/20 Study Rule
There are patterns to WGU tests and tasks. About 20% of the material gives you 80% of the results.
Concentrate on:
- Skills you didn’t do well on or barely passed
- Ideas that show up a lot in quizzes or rubrics
- Examples that the task asked for directly
Skip:
- Long explanations of the background
- Things you already know
- Videos that you can skip unless you need help
Precision gives you speed.
Step 4: Work in short, hard blocks of time.
It’s not about studying longer on the weekend; it’s about studying cleaner.
Use blocks that are focused:
- 60 to 90 minutes of work
- Breaks of 10 to 15 minutes
- No doing more than one thing at once
You should know exactly what you’re fixing during each block: one competency, one rubric item, or one concept.
It’s likely that you’re wasting time if you don’t have a clear goal for your study session.
Step 5: Send it in or set up a time before you change your mind.
Thinking too much is the enemy of getting things done quickly.
For PAs:
- Clearly answer every requirement in the rubric
- Put labels on sections so that evaluators can find evidence quickly.
- Submit when all the boxes are checked.
For OAs:
- Set up the test as soon as you have worked on your weak spots.
- Don’t wait for “perfect” self-assurance
Most of the time, people fail because they are afraid to act, not because they don’t know what to do.
Step 6: Choose “Complete” over “Perfect”
WGU does not give extra credit for working too hard.
You don’t get a grade for:
- Length
- Style
- Extra work
You get a grade based on how well you meet the requirements.
Stop when the requirements are met.
Last Thought
It’s not magic to finish a WGU class in a weekend; it’s alignment. When every action is aimed at the assessment, progress happens naturally.
- WGU gives students rewards for working smart, not hard.
- Complete the task. Send in with confidence. Go on.
- That’s how weekend accelerators do it over and over again.
